Game Types : ‘Beatable’ vs. ‘Unbeatable’

Everyone knows the expression, “The House always wins” but actually, there’s more to the phrase that meets the eye. In fact, there are some casino games where the player can actually create a positive mathematical expectation of probability of long-run success. In other casino games, however, a player, despite short-term victories (and this is sometimes what we all play for!!!), will ultimately lose in the long-run. Below is a short list and separation of those games which are ‘beatable’ and those which are not based, of course, upon the criteria we just mentioned.

‘Beatable’ casino games

Poker (almost universally recognized as more a game of skill than of chance)
Blackjack – with card counting
Video Poker – with proper pay table or progressive jackpot
Pai Gow Poker and Tiles — player-dealt
Sports Betting
Horse Racing (pari-mutuel)
Slots – only linked, multi-player jackpots whose prizes have reached a certain point

‘Unbeatable’ casino games

Casino War
Let It Ride
3-card Poker
4-card poker
Red Dog
Pyramid Poker
Caribbean Stud Poker
Spanish 21 – without counting
